I'm 34 and already getting a lot of white hair... can't decide when to start coloring it. Everyone tells me not to, but I can't even look in the mirror anymore without seeing a cast of white hair. Very hard for a woman my age to start turning white! Not ready for it. I guess I need advice. What are the downsides of coloring your hair?

i get my hair highlighted that way all of my grays that I am getting sort of blend in with my highlights. i guess it all depends on your hair color besides having grays. It makes me mad too.

I am 26, I have been coloring my hair for 11 years now, and I have never had a problem with my hair. My hairdresser can't get over how well it comes through all the processing that I subject it to. My advice to you, if you decide to color, is look at the different options available first (salon dye compared to boxed, do it yourself dye). I have always used the boxed and find it actually treats my hair alot better than salon processing. Nice N Easy and Loreal dyes are the two that I recommend to anyone out there wanting to dye their hair. Choose a hair dye 1 shade lighter or darker than your natural color to begin with, and look for the dyes that have "grey coverage" on the box...I belive that Nice N Easy has a wide range of the grey coverage dyes. Another thing to purchase at the same time is a great conditioning treatment. The dyes come with a tube of conditioner, and it works great, but after that is gone, use a 'hair mask' once a week, by which I mean putting the conditioning treatment on your hair and wearing a plastic cap over night, or if that would interrupt your sleep, then for a few hours, but only once a week..we don't want to over condition our hair either. If you use a good brand of dye and condition properly, your hair will thrive and look fabulous. Hope this helps, and good luck with your choice :)
