Difficult to practice the faith in the ordinariness of life

It's the season of Advent and recollections are being conducted to prepare the faithful for the coming of the Messiah. In such a meditative talk did one priest say how difficult it is to practice faith in the ordinariness of life. Once before, the grace before meals was a table tradition. This day and age, people take a picture of the food and post it on facebook. Why are people afraid to practice the faith? The priest proposes three reasons: First, faith is not convenient. Second, faith is not popular. Third, faith is not profitable. People search for the easy ways. For example, on the question of what college course a youth would like to pursue, many would opt for an easy course. Not one with board examinations. Something practical instead - one that would easily generate income. Thus, the ordinary home cooking has been branded a college course - culinary arts. Result? Lots of youth with wishbone but no backbone. Something to meditate on... No one is entitled to a trouble-free life.

Yes, I agree people shouldn't always be looking for the easy way out...but then again unless people wanted to do things easier than they currently had them we probably wouldn't have half the inventions and conveniences we have today, so it is a double edged sword. I think your priest was right on with his comments though.

I can relate to what you are saying since the good part of technology is making our lives easier since my late grandparents did not live in the countryside of Panama with electrical power.

Inventions came out of necessity, like the wheel to attach to a cart to make a barrow that could ease the burden of heavy load. I think that what the priest is conveying is how easily the faith is taken for granted because faith does not jibe with convenience. But it does not take that long before retiring to sleep at night to say a prayer of thanks to the Creator Who made possible one's full day a hectic one so he could earn his keep.

@eileenleyva No one really needed the microwave or smaetphone.. Most thingsr save time and were invented were so to not only fulfill a perceived need but to make life easier like the tractor for instance.

The late Bruce Lee mentioned in one his quotes on life something like "Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one."

I like that quote. A motto of the brave and the enduring.

@Deepizzaguy Just happy to know that even if they did die young, they already left their marks and have touched many a people's hearts.

I do not know why people are afraid except in those countries where they may be beheaded for faith

True indeed. Nowadays everyone wants shortcuts not long way to achieve their goal. Some people believe in faith and some don't. It's a choice one makes

The young people has their minds set early on that money is the key to a happy life. Everyone wants to be rich the easy way. Faith is an embodiment of the being. Without faith, life ceases to have meaning.
