Just to explain this a bit. I've been a Sherlock Holmes fan since 8th grade, actually the summer before. Even though I had read The Speckled Band in English the year before, I saw what was probably an illegal copy of The Hound of the Baskervilles on TV when I was in New Jersey for vacation. The one with Basil Rathbone. Also in 8th grade Star Trek first aired. Yeah, the one with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy and I then became a science fiction fan. So, whenever I see a Holmes/science fiction story, I'm sold! Amazon popped up a suggestion called: The Arrival - The Case of the Displaced Detective, I went and looked. Yeah, a Holmes/science fiction/mystery mashup. Its copyright date is 2011. So, I saw there was a used copy for sale for $11 or so. Okay, I'll get it, looks like the writer has written more and has other fiction as well. Now, Holmes is out of copyright so anyone can write fiction if they want to. My new, used book was delivered today. I eagerly cut the packaging and open the front cover and, there, on the title page is: "To Carol -- Keeping the memory evergreen!" and then her signature that is basically illegible. Her name is Stephanie Osborn. And this used copy is pristine! (It won't be after I'm finished with it, but...) I have quite a few signed books, but I've never bought one signed and from what I assume is Carol. Maybe they had a falling out? Maybe she's having to sell her treasured book collection to make ends meet? Whatever, I ended up with a signed book - I'm pretty happy.

I have, somewhere in a shed, the two volume, complete, annotated Sherlock Holmes. I also have the fat volume complete Sherlock Holmes. I have also enjoyed many of the books written since, some are better written than others.

My husband and I are huge fans of Sherlock, but only the original. We have a DVD collection.

I didn't care for the Jeremy Brett ones because I didn't think Brett looked enough like my mental picture of Holmes. I'll admit they were quite well done. Rathbone looked more like my mental picture, but I hated the way the later movies made Watson a bumbling idiot. He wasn't in Hound, but that wasn't what was churned out as a "B" series of quick, cheap movies. (And I could go off into a rant about that easily.) I did love the modern Sherlock, but that goes back to the love of SF. I realize that it wasn't really SF, but... So far, I'm 55 pages into the book and I think she's doing quite well.
