Day 180
Psalm 60:1 O God, You cast us off; You scattered us; You have been displeased; O turn Thyself to us again.
2 You made the earth to tremble; You have broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shakes.
3 You showed thy people hard things: You made us drink the wine of astonishment.
4 You gave a banner to them who fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
5 That thy beloved may be delivered; save with Thy right hand, and hear me.
6 God hath spoken in His holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of my head; Judah is my lawgiver;
8 Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.
9 Who will bring me into the strong city? Who will lead me into Edom?
10 Wilt not You, O God, which cast us off? and thou, O God, which didst not go out with our armies?
11 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for He it is who shall tread down our enemies.
What do you do when you need help and none comes your way? Do you complain? Do you blast all your friends because they didn’t come to your aid? Do you wallow in self-pity?
David’s prayer of complaint shows he depended on God, but it looked like God didn’t help him. He asked God why He cast them off, why He didn’t go with his armies. No matter how much David complained, he showed God would triumph over his enemies. He showed that the nations belonged to God and He would do with them as He pleased.
As Christians, you presume to tell God what to do and how to do it. When He doesn’t act as you want Him to, you complain because you believe you know better than God. It might seem like God abandoned you to your enemies, that He allowed Satan to have his way with you. Yet, when you stop and consider your situation, you will see His victory in your life. It won’t happen the way you want, but it will happen.
David showed it’s okay to complain to God, to ask questions, to wonder where God was when he needed Him. God knows how you feel. He knows your expectations. When God doesn’t come through the way you want, it’s because He has a better plan. At the end of David’s prayer, he showed that God would triumph over his enemies and they would return from the battle in victory, not defeat.
You need to focus on the end result. Show God your plans, then watch what God will do and how He will triumph in your situation. Trust God. He will never let you down.
Let’s pray: Father, too often I presume to tell You how to take care of situations in my life. I complain. I murmur. I fear. Take my doubt and fear from me. Show me Your plans to defeat my enemies. Help me trust You when my life spirals out of control. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
