Day 187
Psalm 70:1 Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.
2 Let them be ashamed and confounded who seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, who desire my hurt.
3 Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame who say, Aha, aha.
4 Let all those who seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.
5 But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying. (KJV)
Are you one of those people who want things done right away? Some even want it as soon as yesterday.
David wanted God’s immediate help. He didn’t want to wait for God’s answer. He wanted his enemies gone. He wanted God to let them be ashamed, let them be turned backward.
Let in Hebrew is shuwb, pronounced shoob, meaning again. It’s the same word used in Genesis in the Creation account. He wanted God to do again what He did before. Only this time, David was in a hurry for God to act. He also wanted everyone who sought God to rejoice and be glad in Him. He wanted them to again rejoice in their salvation.
David reminded God he was poor and needy. That doesn’t mean physically, but spiritually. David needed God’s continual presence in his life. Without it, he felt destitute, poor, and needy.
As Christians, do you need to let God into your life again? Are you in a hurry for God to act on your behalf?
Many times, we wonder where God is, why He isn’t helping us, where our help is coming from, if not from Him. It isn’t God who wandered from our side. It’s us who wandered from His.
When you feel lost and alone, in need of immediate help, you turn in every direction except God. He is your last resort when He should be your first.
David turned to God first. He asked God to do again what He did before. In every battle David fought, every situation he faced, he asked God to go in front of him to destroy his enemies. He asked God to do it again. He needed immediate help.
What troubles face you? What situation seems impossible? Have you asked God for help?
A misconception is that God helps those who help themselves. No. God helps those who call on Him. He helps those who rely on Him to come to their aid again and again. It doesn’t matter how needy you are. It only matters that you turn to God and let Him take control of your situation. He will if you let Him.
Let’s pray: Father, I am poor and needy. I need You in my life. Let me know You will help me as I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Amen. My help comes from the Lord. We should learn to wait on the Lord.

@just4him like David, he was a shepherd before becoming a king.
