What a Long, Strange Year It’s Been

It was one year ago today that I was sick as a dog. Sick to my stomach. I thought I had stomach flu. When it didn’t go away after a couple of days I went to the emergency room. The next day the hospital called me and informed me that I had tested positive for covid. I thought I was going to die. NOT because I was that sick, but because the media had been saying non-stop for 293 days that covid = death. I was quarantined for ten days, finally liberated on the day after New Year’s. By then I was feeling fine. The local health department sent me a “care package” that included an oxygen pulsometer, a fidget spinner, and lots of candy. As I mentioned last year, if they sent the Reese’s Cups to test whether my taste sense had returned they picked a fine testing mechanism (and the answer was yes ). So, here I am, a year later. All vaccinated, waiting for the six-month timeframe after the second shot to get bolstered, and hearing the same crap over the past 365 days that I heard for those first 293. I’m sick of covid. I’m sick of people thinking it’s a joke and dying from it because they’re too bull-headed to take precautions. I’m sick of people making fun of the people who were too bull-headed and died. (Do these people laugh at people dying from lung cancer or cirrhosis of the liver from poor choices?) Mostly, I’m sick of a little virus being turned into a political tool and a dividing rod for this already irreparably divided nation of ours. Oh, well, just the ramblings of a hillbilly listening to the biggest country hits of 1952 (the year my parents got married) on a Sunday night. I’m thankful I’m not facing tonight what I was facing a year ago. I pray all of you stay well, too. Have a great evening, everyone. A Christmas wish:

Jay's friend Kris refused to get the Covid vaccine and their pastor stood behind this. Both of them got COVID! I'm not sure why bull headed people don't listen. While others talk incessantly for two years, about sickness and dying. My daughter as an RN, ended up with Covid. She treated many patients. I want all of this to be over with, so 2022 can be a positive year!

Glad you feel better and how nice they sent you a care package and your taste test was Reese's cups. This country is crazy is all I know. They rather play politics than live. We are supposed to get our booster tomorrow. Supposed to be a walk in but we not sure how that works and preparing that we may be turned away. My sister said she was going to call to make sure so either way could get delayed. I am sick of covid too and just hope this booster is last time We need a shot in a while.

Oh my didnt know you went through this.Well Thank God you are alive. P.lease still be careful because being fully vaccinated and takiing the booster does not prevent you from catching it again That is the sad truth.

It really has been a rough two years, to put it mildly. I'm so glad you're well this Christmas and survived last year. If Covid has taught me anything, it's "Don't put anything off. This could be my last chance."

Half of my department was out right after Thanksgiving because of covid. Those of us who were vaccinated managed to get lucky, but one coworker ended up.passing it on to his elderly mother (currently in the hospital with pneumonia). Another coworker hasn't been able to return yet, she's been very sick. She's also been virulently anti-vaxx over the past year, and I do wonder how she feels about it now. I hope she'll be okay.

The media has gone nuts. SO happy you are still here with us. Too much division going on.

Thank you. I often tease you about musical choices. But this is a well stated piece. It is time to pull together not apart!
