Day 199
Psalm 94
Psalm 94:1 O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs; O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show thyself.
2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.
3 LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
4 How long shall they utter and speak hard things and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
5 They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage.
6 They slay the widow and the stranger and murder the fatherless.
7 Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.
When you listen to the news, see the events taking place in the world, hear what your friends and acquaintances say, you shake your head and wonder where justice is and whether the courts will punish the unjust.
The psalmist asks God when He will bring justice to the wicked and vindicate the righteous. He wants God to take vengeance on His people; to show them He sees their situations. Those who practice wickedness believe God doesn’t see them.
It’s the same complaint today. People think they can do anything they want and get away with it. Yet, God promises He will judge the wicked. The psalmist wants to know how long they will wait for God’s judgment.
As Christians, you wonder the same thing as the psalmist. You wonder where justice is and whether you will see it in your lifetime. You know God promised to take care of all those who come against His people. Yet day after day you see the news, and wonder as the psalmist, “How long Lord?” You want to take vengeance into your hands. You mustn’t do that. It always backfires and those who think they can get away with everything will take vengeance on you.
God has appointed a day of vengeance. You need to wait for it and not go ahead of God’s plans.
Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;
3 To appoint unto them who mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
You don’t know when the acceptable year of the Lord is. Therefore, you must wait, pray, seek God’s will in everything you see and hear. God promised to avenge you, protect you, and shelter you against the wickedness in the world. Trust Him and He will show Himself faithful.
Let’s pray: Father, the world is in chaos. Wickedness reigns. Help me to be patient as I wait for You to take vengeance. Keep me safe from all those who want to hurt me. Let me know You are fighting my battles and You will win. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
