The Mahua tree extract or secretion is used by the local villagers for many purposes. Oscar winning director Satyajit Ray showed the efficacy of the Mahua tree extract in film Aranyer Dinratri. The local villagers use the secretion then they ferment it. The fermented liquid is used as local country wine or liquor. It is poured in wooden containers called handi and drunk in raw form. It has huge intoxicating appeal.
