is an apology an admission of guilt

Let's paint the scenario. You go to a party and somebody passes you a marijuana vape and you get very high. You remember acting pretty silly and giggly. After you leave, one of the people at the party accuses you of something you did not do. You get a call from your accuser and you apologize for your behavior. Is that an admission of guilt for the other thing that you were accused of? Now let's add a few more pieces of information. You were bullied a lot in school. You have a disability. You tend to apologize instinctively when you think you're in trouble for something even if you don't know what you did. Is the apology still an admission of guilt?

Not necessarily. Some people apologize just to keep the peace and to avoid the issue escalating into an argument. For instance the person who was drunk and high doesnot remember what he did

Very true and smart point. Some people just not adults coming from someone who hates and does not know how to be an adult.

Maybe I more think why people do not do it is a strength thing. People see it as weak even on NCIS Gibbs always saying do not apologize makes you look weak. I always disagreed I thought showed greatness and showed a good leader. Yes sure if you are wrong is an admission of guilt and you know the first thing they teach in the Marines be a man and own your mistakes but then say never apologize see where I disagree.

Politicians, for example, seem to believe an apology is a sign of weakness. If you did something wrong and are willing to admit it and fix it, it is a sign of strength. But sometimes an apology doesn't really mean anything.

@dawnald Yeah and maybe sometimes apology is you making up for other people's short comings. I have to say issue triggers me a bit but get people will take advantage of anything and use your brain. Apologies can be a young buck just being young buck and feels they need to say sorry even though they did nothing wrong. I think that pisses off leaders the most but some are warranted and some are fake, just have to use your brain and eyes like everything else .

I don't think so. I think it's just dependant on the situation. Sounds like the right thing to have done.
