Day 214
Psalm 119
Psalm 119:17 GIMEL. Deal bountifully with Your servant, so I may live, and keep Your word.
18 Open my eyes, so I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.
19 I am a stranger in the earth: hide not Your commandments from me.
20 My soul breaks for the longing it has unto Your judgments at all times.
21 You rebuked the proud who are cursed, which do err from Your commandments.
22 Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept Your testimonies.
23 Princes also sat and spoke against me: but Your servant meditates in Your statutes.
24 Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.
When people come against you; when they slander your name and make accusations, what do you do? Do you retaliate in kind? Do you shout your woes on social media?
The psalmist presented his case to God. He reminded Him of his faithfulness, how he spent time in His law and meditated on God’s testimonies. He asked for God to deal well with him because he didn’t retaliate in kind.
As Christians, Jesus taught you to turn the other cheek. You can’t do that if you don’t spend time in God’s Word, reading, studying, and learning how to approach those who wrong you.
Instead of going to social media whenever someone says something bad to you or treats you with contempt, take up your cause with God. Show Him how faithful you are. If you aren’t faithful, it’s time to spend time in God’s Word, read, study, and pray. Then God will listen when you come to Him and He will defend you against your enemies. It’s His promise.
Let’s pray: Father, be my shield and defense against those who come against me. Build up my faith as I spend time in Your Word, reading, studying, and praying. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
