Richmond police officers Ben Frazer and Steve Gibson were looking for a suspect that was seen near the Richmond Inn eight days ago when they both saw a fire that began in the back of the motel in the afternoon.
Both police officers had to use a battering ram to alert the hotel occupants who were inside of their hotel rooms to leave the motel as soon as they could.
Officers Gibson and Frazer were able to get the motel guests out of the danger zone in time which was around 10 guests who were evacuated safely.
Officer Frazer suffered injuries related to smoke inhalation. However after he received medical attention in the back of an ambulance, the two police officers returned to work that same day.
Richmond Police Captain Faith Flippo mentioned that thanks to the actions of the two police officers, they will be rewarded in the near future.
The suspect that the two officers were in pursuit of whose name was not revealed was captured on Wednesday.
What crime the suspect did was not mentioned by the police report. I would just say that the two police officers were the right place at the right time on the afternoon of the motel fire.
The cause of the fire was clothes left on a heater.
