My highlight of the day was watching the LSU vs. Auburn gymnastics meet. Auburn came into the meet ranked #1, and LSU ranking #8. LSU prevailed and won the meet with a score of 197.975 to Auburn's 197.750. Auburn's Suni Lee, the all-around champion of the 2020 Olympics got her first 10.0 on the uneven bars today. It was not enough to propel the Auburn Tigers over the LSU Tigers today. The LSU Tigers had two perfect scores of their own. Haleigh Bryant, a sophomore, scored a 10.0 on the vault in LSU's first event rotation. This set the pace for the Tigers who had the second largest crowd for gymnastics in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center today with a total of 13,569 fans. The crowd kept the LSU Tigers pumped up and propelled Kiya Johnson, a junior, to earn another perfect score on the floor for the Tigers. The win today marked the 300th win for th LSU Tigers in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Next week the LSU Tigers will face the Florida Gators in Gainsville. I think this was a great meet to prepare them to take down another Top Five team! Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain.

Nice that they have the place named in Pistol Pete’s honor. I wonder how popular things like that and cheerleading really are in colleges that are known primarily for powerhouse football, basketball, and/or baseball.

Gymanstics is a very popular sport in the Baton Rouge area. Since I've been going to the meets since the early 1900's the crowds have gone from 2,000+ to over 10,000+. I don't think cheerleading is as popular, but it is considered a sport now, so who knows?

It is fun watching all the coaches and teams we interacted with when my daughter was active in the LSU Bengals Gymnastics.
