Kennedy Brooks has spent years learning how to protect herself, and empowering other women to do the same. Still, there are some hazards that can't be predicted. That includes Reyes McKenzie who owns her local gym. Strong, capable and watchful, he seems like the one man who might understand her past. For once, Kennedy is tempted to let her guard down - something she's vowed never to do. The moment petite, fiercely determined Kennedy walks into his gym, Reyes knows that she carries secrets. What he doesn't expect is that she can tell the same about him. When trouble tracks her down, she turns to Reyes, unleashing a maelstrom of protective instincts and mutual desire. But will her need for him end when the danger does, or will they take the ultimate risk, on each other? ~~~~ This is book 2 in The McKenzies of Ridge Trail series. We first met Kennedy briefly in book 1, No Holding Back. I have already started book 3 Watching Over You. I understand a book 4 is in the works. Lori Foster is known for writing romance novels, some pretty steamy. This series is romantic suspense, my favourite kind. Not only do you have romance but you have a lot of suspense, mystery, action and danger. It's kind of a friends to lovers type of story which I like because I feel that is the best way to start a romantic relationship... friends first. Spoiler Alert: The McKenzie family are on a mission to stop human trafficking and to help the women who are victims before, during and after. It is personal for them. All family members are well trained for this vigilante work. These books are nothing less than intriguing and exciting. I highly recommend reading this series if this is a genre that grabs you.

It sounds good. I'm glad you're enjoying the series. I'm not into steamy romances. Those turn me off big time and they tend to find the trash can.

Like I said, Lori Foster is known for steamy romances but this series and her seasonal stories are not steamy.

That is an awesome cover. The cover on the third book kind of gives me Hardy Boys vibes.

I like to read books since I could learn items from the style of the writer to apply when I write fan fictions on Archive Of Our Own on working on superhero stories.

Yes, writers do need to read a lot.
