More and more people have depression. I wonder if people can overcome depression without medication. Sometimes medication has horrible side effects. Not everybody can tolerate it. Depression can cause suicidal thoughts. I wonder if this kind of depression can disappear without medication. Have you seen people who healed without taking medication?

Yes it can depending on what the depression is caused by. Some people can work it out with a doctor with no medication. Some times talking helps, change of diet, working out. Then you have other people where it’s part of a mental illness and depression it’s self is a mental health illness. For my husband no mediation would be good. If your so depressed that you feel the need to hurt yourself or other you do need to see a doctor. My husband is bipolar so he can not control his chemical imbalances in his brain. So he needs medication to help keep that regular as possible.

Medicine has side effects. It causes nausea, anxiety, panic attacks, headaches, loss of appetite, loss of energy. This happens to a lot of people.

@dya80dya I understand, but I think that natural remedies have a weak effect. I'm taking an antidepressant.

@Queenoflife It's true. Natural is too weak for me too.

I think if it is very severe, some kind of medicine, maybe even holistic might be necessary. It is not something that is well understood enough by others or even medical people. Sometimes, maybe a change of place can help people, even if only temporarily, but that does not last always, and it is not as if people can just get up and go..(money)

Everyone I know who have been dealing with depression take medication. I don't know much about but I know medication has side effects.

I think so, but they have to change how they think about things. The mind is a powerful tool.

Yes, it could be through foods. There are foods that relieve loneliness, worries. If one has these sooner or later depression occurs. The best to gradually cure depression is by eating spinach, celery, mongoes and fish - chicken livers. The son of my friend in Saudi Arabia is now healed and he's having a happy feeling and disposition this time. He's back to work. I thanked the Lord.

Some cases of depression, and probably most of the severe ones, are biological. It has something to do with neurotransmitters gone haywire. It is not something that people who suffer from it can dispel by mere power of thought. Thus, medication. Or maybe drastic diet changes? Counselling? Changes in one's social milieu and physical environment? Or all of them?
