Hey there, everyone. I've been too lazy or busy to post, but I figured I'd try to knock out a few tonight. I'm going to be a little open on here, as I've been open before, so I hope I don't regret it. I haven't regretted it yet though, so I'm not worried. Anywho, this is going to be a lengthy post. Okay, so, my first virtual psychiatrist appointment was on 2/3. She's really nice, and I'll see her every six months. I mentioned my issue with focusing, losing my train of thought, etc., which happens often. So after explaining how I wanted to rule out this or that, as it could just be my own issue (i.e., poor sleep), she gave me a questionnaire to answer. It turns out I have ADHD, which isn't really uncommon with my family or people in general. I'm just glad I have an answer as to what's been up with me lately. My original plan was to do only talk therapy for about a month and then start medication for ADHD if need be, but now, I'm thinking of just starting medication instead of waiting to see if my focus improves. I haven't decided yet, so I'll talk to my therapist about it next appointment. My psychiatrist also thinks I need bereavement counseling for my grief. She wants me to find one, in addition to their therapist, but I don't think I'm going to need to do that because my therapist seems to be on board with addressing my grief. Yes, I had my first virtual therapist appointment on 2/7. She also seems very nice. We're going to discuss my grief (and I'll double-check to see if I still need to find a bereavement counselor), anxiety, ADHD, certain fears, etc. She wants to hear about any positive news and updates I may have as well. My therapist told me these sessions are going to be about me, and to just be myself. :) My next therapy appointment is Thursday, via Google Duo (video chatting). So I'm glad I'll finally be getting the help I've wanted to get these last few months. I doubt I'm gonna update after every session, but I thought I'd make this update because I've mentioned it before and things are finally moving along. I'll try to be back soon. You all take care. 5 March was the day after my very first visit with my psychiatrist. For the early diagnosis she thought I had bipolar, she gave me medicine for controlling my swing mood - I feel blessed since now I feel much better but before she really decided me have bipolar, she wanted to see my medical records on the next appointment to see if my mood swing is caused by problem of thyroid. 17 March will be my next appointment, hopefully everything will go well. I never know visiting psychiatrist can be this good, feels like I have won a half of the war in my head. Hope you feel much better also after your next appointment.

I am so late, but I'm glad it's worked out for you! My ADHD isn't as high as we thought, so I've opted out of meds for now. Most of my issues with focusing have been brought on by my own choices (i.e., poor sleep schedule). But talking to a therapist has been helpful with my grief, anxiety, etc.

@Mrlnvk Thank you so much! I definitely need to do the same, esp. for my anxiety and time management.

My word! You poor thing! At least you know what's wrong now and you can get the help that you need. You sound like you have been through the wars. Take care of yourself. I hope it works out for you.

Thank you so much. Honestly, there are people who have been through worse. I'm not worried about ADHD. It gives me some insight as to why my focus has been crummy. I'm focused on the grief, bitterness, etc. surrounding my Momma's passing (and both of my parents' passing, in general). I think it'll work out, now that I'm on the right path. Thank you again.

It's really hard taking those first steps, but if your tharapist can help you address your grief, finding one to specialize in that seems like overkill. I would, personally, give therapy an opportunity before taking medication. After all, you need both sometimes, but if you can put one less toxin in your body the better. While meds can help with our issues, kidneys and livers don't like it.

Thank you. It's not hard for me to talk to a therapist, but it was difficult to find one who took my insurance and had openings, so if I can just talk to her and not have to repeat the steps for a separate grief counselor, that'd be great. As for the medication, I'm gonna talk to my therapist about it this week. I'm self-employed, which takes a lot of focus and self-discipline, so I may need to think about starting medication sooner than later, so that I can get it together. I used to be pretty good with it, but it became an ongoing problem before my Momma even got sick (so I can't say it's grief), and maybe I need a little help with it now because I've gone so long without it.
