Swami Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti is Today in India!!!

Hi guys, Hope you all are doing good and enjoying your weekend with family. I am doing good too. Today, 26th Feb is celebrated as "Swami Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti" in India as it's his birth anniversary. He was the founder of Arya Samaj back in the day in India. He was born on 12th February, 1824 at a place called Tankara in Gujarat state. His parents were deeply religious and followers of Lord Shiva. He was more than a religious leader. He was a reformer who left deep impression on India. He denounced the caste system and encouraged education, equal rights of man and women too. He introduced a complete overhaul of the education system in India and is often considered as one of the visionaries of modern India. The DAV ( Dayanand Anglo Vedic) schools in 1886 were established in order to realise the vision of Dayanand Saraswati. He was a renowned scholar who promoted the Vedic Philosophy and principles of Karma and Reincarnation. His mission in life was Universal Brotherhood for which he founded Arya Samaj in 1876. The Arya Samaj opposes idol worship, caste system based on birth rather than on merit, untouchability, child marriage, pilgrimages, priesthood and temple offerings. Social reforms and education were big part of Swami Dayanand Saraswati's ideals. He wrote more than 60 books. One of his major scholarly works is Satyarth Prakash which means The Light of Truth. I am glad that I came to know about him today as it showed in my calender notification. There were so many great leaders in India whose names weren't mentioned in school books.
