Day 262
Jeremiah 20:7 O LORD, You induced me, and I was persuaded. You are stronger than I and have prevailed. I am in derision daily. Everyone mocks me.
8 For when I spoke, I cried out. I shouted, “Violence and plunder!” Because the word of the LORD was made to me a reproach and a derision daily.
9 Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones. I was weary of holding it back, and I could not.
10 For I heard many mocking: “Fear on every side!” “Report,” they say, “and we will report it!” All my acquaintances watched for my stumbling, saying, “Perhaps he can be induced. Then we will prevail against him, and we will take our revenge on him.”
11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore, my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper. Their everlasting confusion will never be forgotten.
12 But, O LORD of hosts, You who test the righteous, and see the mind and heart, let me see Your vengeance on them. For I have pleaded my cause before You.
13 Sing to the LORD! Praise the LORD! For He has delivered the life of the poor from the hand of evildoers.
People make threats but rarely follow through. When they do, you hear about it in the news. It’s seen and heard around the world.
Jeremiah not only felt threatened, but he also experienced the hatred of those God sent him to prophecy against. He wanted to quit but felt compelled to continue. God’s calling on his life was stronger than his desire to walk away from God’s purpose to warn His people about their coming destruction.
As Christians, many times you want to throw in the towel, hang up the gloves, walk away, and never look back. However, you know you cannot. God called you with one purpose. It is up to you to fulfill His purpose in your life. Whether He sends you to a foreign mission field or sends you to your neighbor, your mission is to tell others about Jesus and His love for them.
When Jeremiah wanted to walk away, he felt God’s calling as a fire shut up in his bones. He couldn’t walk away from God. He needed to fulfill God’s purpose.
What has God called you to do? If you’re like Jeremiah, talk to God about your life, and then let God work in you to fulfill His purpose in you. It won’t be easy. Jeremiah is an example of how difficult God’s work is. People will mock you, harass you, slander you, and make it nearly impossible to fulfill God’s purpose in your life. Remember, nothing is impossible when God is in it. Set your course, pray, and watch God work everything to His glory.
Let’s pray: Father, You gave me a purpose, a mission to go to the nations. You know the obstacles I face. Help me when I want to give up. Let me know You will always be with me to help me and bring You glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

I don't know what God has called me to do. I know what I want to do. How do you know the difference between what God has called you to do and what you want to do?
