Who Among You 'Prefers a Certain Gender' because of What Teachers Taught in School?

Kate McKinnon and Colin Jost on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's "WEEKEND UPDATE"

That question came to mind when I saw a trending news-story about Kate McKinnon's performance on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's "WEEKEND UPDATE." https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/kate-mckinnon-slams-florida-s-don-t-say-gay-bill-on-snl/ar-AAUH69V?ocid=uxbndlbing (Basically, she started her segment praising Florida governor Ron DeSantis's "Don't Say Gay"-bill, thinking it meant that students couldn't call 'bad things' gay; but Colin Jost corrected her, saying it meant that teachers couldn't mention 'the gayness of important figures who happened to be gay.') When I was in middle-school (actually, high-school; but Kate McKinnon talked about middle-school), homosexuality wasn't 'a real thing' (I mean, it WAS; but it was like 'using the restroom'---if you did it, you didn't really talk about it). In college, I had friends who 'went back & forth' on it. So I 1) don't think 'it's something that is decided by your genetics' & 2) don't think it really matters enough to learn-about in school (that's something you're supposed to deal with 'at home'---maybe not 'talk with your parents about,' but NOT IN PUBLIC!)

It certainly wasn't talked about in any of the schools I attended.

And if you had asked one of your teachers about it, I bet they would've told you to ask your family, your doctor, the school's health-teacher or nurse about it.

@mythociate Since my elementary teachers were mostly Franciscan nuns, I may have got a blow across the face

I think if you're gay or straight you shouldn't be ashamed of who you are. Harm none, do what ye will.

It's insulting to think 'the gender that someone is attracted-to' is a part of "who someone is." That might be closer to what Ron DeSantis meant; not 'that you should deny people their choice of preference there,' but that 'it doesn't make a difference (to society as a whole).'

@MissNikki So is 'how I use the restroom,' but I don't DEFINE myself by it!

@mythociate well, it is part of who someone is whether they like it or not. Just as our race is part of who we are.
