Day 269 Read Lamentations 3 Lamentations 3:55 I called on Your name, O LORD, from the lowest pit. 56 You heard my voice: “Do not hide Your ear from my sighing, from my cry for help.” 57 You drew near on the day I called on You, and said, “Do not fear!” 58 O Lord, You pleaded the case for my soul. You redeemed my life. 59 O LORD, You see how I am wronged. Judge my case. 60 You see all their vengeance; all their schemes against me. 61 You heard their reproach, O LORD; all their schemes against me; 62 The lips of my enemies and their whispering against me all day. 63 Look at their sitting down and their rising up. I am their taunting song. 64 Repay them, O LORD, according to the work of their hands. 65 Give them a veiled heart. Your curse be upon them! 66 In Your anger, pursue and destroy them from under the heavens of the LORD. Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? Is your life dark and full of turmoil? Are you drowning in despair? Jeremiah told God how he felt in the midst of His judgment on Judah and Israel. He held nothing back in his deliberation of what he saw around him. Yet in his bleakest moment, he found hope. Lamentations 3:21 This I recall to my mind; therefore, I have hope. 22 Through the LORD’S mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. 24 “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore, I hope in Him!” 25 The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. 26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. Do you feel the hope in Jeremiah’s declaration? Today, you can see images of devastation when you turn on your TV. You see the war-torn images of Ukraine and the hopelessness of the people. Yet, in the midst of turmoil and destruction, hope resides. It resides in the hearts of the people who find allies in neighboring countries and across the world. You don’t need to live in a war-torn country to see destruction in your life. A personal crisis puts you in a tail-spin so that you can only look up and pray for help. As Christians, Satan works hard to put you in a tail-spin, destroy everything you know, and keep you in defeat. Yet you have hope. You know the One who can help you when every avenue closes against you. You know the One who opens doors no man can close and closes doors no man can open. You know the One who hears your prayers and comforts you when everything in you cries for help. You know the One who comes to your defense against Satan. His name is Jesus. Just as Jeremiah hoped in God and turned to Him in prayer. His prayer is a declaration of what God knew and could do for him. He trusted God to defend him and destroy his enemies. Read Jeremiah’s prayer again and feel hope rise, knowing Jeremiah’s God is your God. He will come to your aid. You only need to call on Him. He will answer. Let’s pray: Father, You are my God. I trust in You to help me when Satan comes to destroy me and my faith in You. Help me declare my hope in You as I stand on Satan’s neck because You brought me victory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
