Day 276
Daniel 4:34 And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most-High and praised and honored Him who lives forever. For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation.
35 All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, “What have You done?”
36 At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me. My counselors and nobles resorted to me, I was restored to my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.
37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride, He is able to put down.
Have you known people who think they are everything and treat those around them as nothing? People stay away from such people.
King Nebuchadnezzar became arrogant and stated that everything in his kingdom was his by right. It was for his glory and majesty. As soon as he spoke those words, God cut him down for seven years during which time he lived and ate among the beasts. When God restored his mind, he prayed and blessed God for who He is.
In Christian circles, you can point out people who act as Nebuchadnezzar did, expecting everything they receive as their right because they are God’s chosen. It doesn’t take long before you hear of their downfall. Some end up in prison, their ministries coming to an abrupt halt. They become a byword among believers and an example of how not to act.
Paul told the Philippian believers they were to treat others better than themselves.
Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others.
When you give preference to others, you display God’s love better than when you lift yourself up. Paul went on to describe how Jesus appeared before men so He could draw all men to God.
Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (NKJV)
When your behavior equals that of Jesus Christ, you will praise God as King Nebuchadnezzar did and give all glory to Him.
Let’s pray: Father, never let me think of myself as more than the person You made me. Let me always give You glory in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
