Do You Have Trouble Sleeping? Lets Help Each Other!

If everyone lists some tips, it could help someone in need, someone who might have never tried your suggestion. I'm a man in his 30s, but for years, I've had to wake up in the middle of every night to empty my bladder. So basically, I have to try and sleep twice, and also go back to sleep after using the toilet. I notice I sleep much better in a cold room, so what I do is close off my vents, so that in the morning when it is cold, turning on the furnace won't have much of an effect. I only use the furnace until this small house is warm, at about 73, and then I turn on my space heater, since I spend over 90% of my waking hours in the same spot. I even throw a sheet between the living room and kitchen to save. I suddenly like winter, since I've never had central air conditioning in my entire adult life. Routine... I've never been much who always had a strict routine, but I try many methods to try and gain self-awareness and to see what works and what doesn't... I turn my cell phone off at the same time every day, early evening. I turn off my laptop, too. I'll then take a hot shower and "relax myself" (you all do it) although it's becoming a chore, lol. I'll then start on dinner, and I'll watch something trivial like a sport for an hour, and then watch the same black and white Western sitcoms, BECAUSE it is uneventful, and I know exactly what's going to happen, so no surprises.. I do smoke, it's legal here, and I do eat a lot, probably because I don't eat until almost 8pm.. I also block the digital clock with tape, so I have no idea what time it is. It can be stressful, especially when it's so late you start doing a countdown similar to, "If I sleep right now, I'll get 3 hours of sleep".. Well, it's going to be almost impossible to sleep right now. I only do this occasionally/rarely, but meditation really works. It's basically taking deep breaths, slowly, and eventually, hopefully you sleep... What I do is watch TV until I get double vision, and then I go to bed right away... I can't sleep unless I'm very full, but of course you don't want to eat too much, because then you'll find yourself going to the bathroom... I've read that tryptophan helps you sleep (it's in turkey, etc), so it's something to compare. Maybe we can help each other? It's the #1 important thing in my life. On the days I don't get enough sleep, I feel sick, have trouble breathing, thinking, etc etc..

I'm a night owl. I usually go to bed at 1 a.m. and get up at 11 a.m. the next morning. I think it's easier for two people to sleep than one

@PinkFloydFan Many people fall asleep by counting sheep, close their eyes and think nothing in their mind. They meditate, one sheep, two sheep, three sheep, four sheep, five sheep, six sheep……Recite silently in the order of numbers and slowly sleep

@zhangxueying I think I used to try that when I was a teenager.. I will try it again. I guess there's many forms of meditation, just altered to fit what's best for you. Try one thing, if it doesn't work, try something else. Thanks! :)

I used to be a night owl. I liked it because it was quiet, but unfortunately, the US runs on 9-5... However, I could never sleep when a woman spent the night, not much, anyway, and prefer an early date (and an early exit)

I read before bed. I also subscribe to the sativa method for sound sleep. I will wake sometimes but can get back to sleep pretty easily. I did have trouble years ago when I was working and I laughed at your "If I fell asleep now, I could get three hours..." I said that hundreds of times. I always told myself that if I couldn't sleep, I could at least lay still and just rest every muscle. I found that I fell asleep pretty quickly that way. I took the pressure of falling asleep away by settling for complete rest. It worked for me. I stopped working when Covid hit and just found a way to retire early. Now hours and days matter less. I sleep when I want to sleep. Tuesday is identical to Saturday. Time and date aren't as important as they once were. I leave the house two or three times a month to shop for groceries. COVID taught me that it's not necessary to run several times a week when everything can be done in just a few trips into town. If I find myself tossing at night, I’ll just get up no matter the time.

@MALUSE Same here. Everything changes when you stop working. I was teasing my wife not long ago because she was talking about the upcoming weekend. I told her it was Saturday. It was actually Sunday lol. Neither one of us knew what day it was.

@PinkFloydFan I find better rest with sativa or a hybrid. I pay less per ounce now than I did in 1980. It's been legal here for a decade and I've sampled many things but the sativa works best for sound sleep.

When I can't sleep, I close my eyes, meditate in my heart and recite Amitabha repeatedly,Amitabha is a language spoken by Buddhists. I don't know what your faith is. Maybe you can find words in your faith that can calm your heart.
