Los Angeles in 1940s

Does anyone know about Los Angeles history of the later 1940s? I'm talking more about daily life and works of the industry back then, rather then the specific dates and facts.

I did not move to Calif until 1955, but there is much info online about LA in that period. Raymond Chandler wrote many good detective novels set there in the '30s and '40s too. A classic movie starring Jack Nicholson called Chinatown, though it is set in the "30s.

I'm not good with history that has to do with LA but I know the encarata encyclopedia online has tons of information on city histories.
