Intermittent Fasting

Since my knees developed arthritis, my doctor has instructed me not to keep my exercise on the treadmill. The physio therapist suggested a bicycle. When they put me on the small pedal cycle the 10-15 minutes of pedalling caused my hip flexors to react painfully. So... what am I going to do? I have this extra 20-30 pounds I have to lose. Time to suck it up and stop late night snacking. I started with 12 hours one night, 14 hours the next 2 nights and have been doing 16 hours since. I think it's been about a week and a half now. I'm doing pretty well actually. I have issues with sleep when I go to bed starving, but I don't wake up particularly hungry and can wait out the hour or two before I can eat something. Also, having my daughter's fiance walk in at 8:30pm with pizzas in hand was not amusing to me but I resisted. I didn't even go into the dining room. My daughter's birthday was on Saturday. We went out for dinner Friday night. Though we were done by 7ish, someone suggested going to the ice cream parlour for dessert. So my 7pm stop eating time was pushed to 8pm. That's the biggest problem is sticking to a consistent schedule. I stick with 16 hours but every evening I have to figure out when I can eat again the next day. Like last night... I stopped eating at 7, but then at 9pm realized I was still sipping on ginger ale after having an IBS flare-up day. Dang! Couldn't eat until 1:30pm today. But I did it! I am so bad with discipline and will power but I am hoping I can continue this. I have heard people have had a lot of success with this. I really thought I couldn't do it because I get nauseous when I am too hungry. I had one evening like that last week. But again, I pushed through. Has anyone else tried intermittent fasting?

I love food too much. But I do try to exercise. Hiking and cycling work for me. I have lower back issues, but I try to exercise through them.

Exercise is crippling for me these days. I want to continue walking but not happy about the results. Even without exercising I had 3 nights in a row last week where I had trouble sleeping because of the pain in my legs. And that's with a weighted blanket.

@TheHorse I have fibromyalgia (chronic pain, chronic fatigue among other symptoms). There really is nothing to say. Exercise was supposed to be the cure all for fibro but instead it has made it worse.

IF is not for me. I do best when I eat regularly. Last night I had cereal at bed time. Breakfast at 6:00 am. My energy sags and I get migraines if I skip meals. Also, my best weight loss was eating meals and snacks throughout the day. I am doing Weight Watchers. Many people there also do IF. It works for many, it seems.

I had a couple of rough nights where I couldn't sleep due to hunger but I'm doing much better now. Still itching to snack in the evenings but to be honest I was snacking to much. This is much better for me.

@paigea I know but my determination is strong. I really have to get this weight off and exercise seems to be out of the question. I keep moving but I can't put into it what I used to. Some people have had great success with this and I hope I am one of them.

Not really. I'm hungry in the evening after having my final eat at 7pm, starving when I go to bed but not when I get up. No one should eat in the evenings the way I have been.

l may have a long time ago when l was trying to lose a few pounds. Now my regular schedule is a good breakfast at 6.30 or 7am. Lunch is at 12 or 12.30 and dinner (a very small one) is at 4 or 5 pm. Sometimes l skip lunch and have dinner at 3 and that would be it for the day.

I usually don't wake until 10 or 11am. Problem is if I wake earlier I find myself stalling until I can eat. I'm so used to my previous routine. I have always been an evening snacker so this has been tough as I go to bed late, but I'm doing it.

@Kandae11 Thanks. The evenings are hard but it's not as hard as I thought it would be. I'm not starving when I wake up.
