Scratch cards by online stores, a farce

Recently while shopping from jiomart, I got a scratch card which said on scratching that I had won a free gift, but when I claimed it, I was directed to the seller's website which asked me register my details. This included typing my name. When I typed my name, it gave a message in red "invalid value " and did not register me. Flipkart also sometimes asks to scratch cards promising gifts but they turn out to be products in discount that either I don't use or are not of the brand that I use. I think these scratch cards are just a farce. I only earned very little amounts by scratching cards on Google Pay. What do you think, should I scratch cards anymore on online shopping? Have anyone of you won free gifts by scratching cards while shopping online?

Nothing wrong in scratching them.. You might end up with some good coupon some day. Do update your preferences though whenever they ask for a feedback on the coupon scratched. Gpay and Phonepe have some good coupons.

@vsai2008 They are here to sell and gain profit not give away free gifts. It's just a trick to keep us glued to their sites.

@aninditasen Yes it is right what we can buy with 8 Rs to use it you have to spend more than it. My experience with amzon pay is better when ever I recharged my dish TV each time I gets money back and I can used it for next time to make any payment

Thank you for posting this question - I've never heard of this one, but it raises red flags for me If its not already just a scam to get Personally Identifiable Information, I can see how someone will soon turn it into one. The most innocent thing it could be, is a way to get your information so they can market targeted items to you. Its the same with 'surveys' or offers online - all they want is your information. Really, who can prove that there is no prize? I see they use people's natural curiosity against them, otherwise, why the 'scratch'? Or why do people have to go to and enter information in a website before they can find out if they 'won'?

@marguicha I too don't trust them. They can't be free gifts if you have to pay.

I don't shop online and have not encountered this, but I have seen "prizes" from real life where you are asked to go to an online link to redeem your prize (which asks for your information). And the prize is nothing more than a discount for something else, or to play another game for another prize, etc. It's a marketing ploy or a way to get your information . . . I don't bother with these things if I suspect it.

@aninditasen Right. Prizes don't seem to be a good thing anymore . . . people are skeptical of messages tell you that won something.
