One of my favorite college football stars from another era named Marcus Dupree who gained fame playing college football with the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team in 1983-1984 before injuries ended a possible great career is being praised for his actions of being at the right place at the right time over the weekend in Oklahoma City when he assisted a female out of an auto that crashed on a highway.
Marcus was an eyewitness when he saw a female who passed him on the highway when her auto clipped a semitruck which caused her auto to flip several times before coming to a stop.
Marcus called 911 to report the accident to the authorities as he then went to the scene of the accident to get the female driver out of the auto safely.
Marcus is thankful that the auto did not catch fire since it would have made his attempt to save her would have been tougher than he could handle.
When the medical help arrived, the female driver was checked out as they found out that she did not suffer any serious injuries in the accident.
It is nice to see a former college football star assist a person in need during an auto accident.
Just add to Marcus the title of helper as well as a former great running back in college.

Marcus Dupree actually left Oklahoma for a smaller college and then played in the USFL for a number of years. Injury forced his retirement. In 1990, he signed with the Los Angeles Rams and played two seasons. His rushing average was 3.7 yards per carry and he had one touchdown in the two years he played for them.
I remember him for his time at Oklahoma and was sure he played pro ball. I looked him up to find out.
It was fun to hear his name again and to hear that he was on the spot and brave enough to rescue another in trouble.

He is one my favorite former football players since he did play football for the New Orleans Breakers in the earlier league version.

Yep. That was the USFL. I didn't hear much about him on the Breakers but did see him in the NFL.
He just never regained the form from his Oklahoma days.
It was a great post. I hadn't thought about him in many years.
It's even better that he was the hero again.
Thanks, George.

You are welcome since a lot of retired football players hardly make news after they leave the game.

If people remember him for his college football days I believe they will remember him more for what he did for the woman, her car and the accident. What a hero he was. Thank you Marcus for what you did for the woman.

That is why some law enforcement officers get angry during interviews on television that the community should assist them instead of playing on the sidelines.
