Trying to grow citrus trees

I have a nice kumquat bush that has been in my garden for a long time. It does very well and I still have some of the fruit in the freezer.
I also spend time at a volcano, Sakurajima, which is famous for tiny sweet mandarin oranges. This year, I brought some of the seeds back and now that it is spring I have soaked them for a week and now planted them. I am hoping they will grow nicely in their pots. The trees are not particularly big so I think it should work. However, I don't know if most citrus trees need a graft in order to produce the same type of mandarin oranges as the parent tree. It will be interesting to see if they grow and if they ever produce fruit.
Do you grow fruit trees? Do they usually give you a lot of fruit? My other fruit tree is loquat (biwa in Japanese). They produce a huge amount of fruit.

@petatonicsca I agree with you. I hope my younger brother will consider the idea.

Would that mandarin tree take many years to grow and produce fruit?
