The things you see around here!

An added benefit of my daily outings has been all the strange and interesting things I have seen when out and about! I get to see more of what’s going on in my vicinity - it’s amazing what you miss when you stay at home, and useful to get updated information on roadworks, houses being built and the like. I also found some useful things - on one trip I found that someone had left a large bag outside their house for anyone to take for free. It turned out to contain parts of a marble run, which has kept Little One and her friends (and me!) amused for ages. Another day I passed a skip (dumpster) and something caught my eye. I stopped to check and sure enough, it was a shopping basket - exactly what I need for my pond project! The most entertaining thing I have seen so far though was on the way home from the supermarket. There is a cycle path most of the way, but unfortunately it just sort of merges into the pavement (sidewalk) near the store, so you either have to ride in the road (on the other side) and then try and cross to get to the cycle path just where two lanes of cars are trying to get onto a roundabout and others exiting from it, or else you have to cycle on the pavement for a short stretch and risk annoying pedestrians. This particular day I opted for the pavement option. But it isn’t all that wide and rounding the corner heading towards me I saw a rather belligerent-looking middle-aged woman riding a large mobility scooter. I stopped to one side to allow her to come past - she didn’t smile or acknowledge me in any way, but then who knows, maybe she had some sort of facial paralysis or something. But coming along right behind her was a middle aged man, with a greying beard. At first I thought he was just walking briskly behind her. But as they came closer I realised he was riding a skateboard. And then as he passed me I saw that he was actually holding onto a thin leash that was attached to the mobility scooter. So he was actually ‘scooter-boarding’ (kind of like wake-boarding I guess)! Unfortunately I simply couldn’t grab my camera and turn it on quickly enough. I did consider turning around and pedalling after them to try and get a snap, but we were quite close to the store so I reckoned they would have arrived before I could manage it (also it would have been rather weird!) But I am tempted to cycle that way more often and see if I can catch them anywhere again. I’ve heard of teenage skate-boarders grabbing onto the backs of buses and such, but never anything like this! I don't have a suitable photo so here's an interesting seaside plant! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2022.

There are so many crazy things out in the world and close to home. I could write a book about them if I had the time.

As long as you dismount when you're on the pavement, no one can fault you.

Even I enjoy going out and observe things. Some of them can be so interesting. I like this picture of the sea plant here. Even that looks so interesting.
