What Difference would 'Someone Else Owning the Social-Network Site' Make?

My friend from high-school (now Cultural Ambassador) Mary Millben frequently praises tycoon Elon Musk for planning to promote 'free speech' if he's confirmed as CEO of Twitter. They say Twitter has become "the de facto public square" of today, but it is- (and most other social-network sites are-) privately-owned 'publishers'---maybe not "publishers" in the sense of 'printing and binding a book or newspaper or magazine,' but in the literal sense of 'announcements made to the public.' It makes me think of "NFTs"---'pictures on the Internet' that you can "buy" & "own" (which means nothing but "you have a receipt that says you 'own' it" ... and maybe you can make people stop using it in their blogs & sites).

The concerns of the changes he could possibly make. Like it no longer being a free platform. But a paid subscription service, instead. I don't really use it anyway so I suppose it shouldn't really bother me.

I don't think he'd make it a pay-to-read or -post platform---one of the main reasons why it's so popular is (like network television) it's FREE to read & -post.

@mythociate I don't think he would, either. However, it doesn't change the fact it's a change that could possibly happen. Weather it's true or not, remains to be seen. But, if he saw the value in it, he might. Who knows how that man thinks.

I’ve never tweeted or followed twitter. Facebook drives me crazy….instagram is something I’m testing out, but I’m not sure this senior understands what I’m supposed to be doing.

You might just think of the social-sites as 'extra email-addresses.' Just 'good ways to keep up on family-news.'

Musk's idea of "Free Speech" includes outright lies, deliberate misinformation, and foreign adversary propaganda. Right now, his prospects for buying Twitter seem to be dwindling as Tesla stock drops and he can't seem to find anyone to loan him enough money to complete the purchase.
