What you’re feeling is typical. Don’t feel bad or beat yourself up. I know people who stopped on the way home from putting their baby to sleep and got a new baby. Personally, I waited about 14 months because I didn’t think it’d be fair to the new baby: bring it home and say, “Okay, be just like the previous baby.” By the time I did get around to adopting another one my dog allergy had gotten so bad I couldn’t keep him….so my dad took him and I got to see him a lot.

I will know when the time is right. All four of my babies have been very different, and I talk about their differences fondly. I was just feeling really lonely this morning.

It took me over a year before I could talk about Misty without tears in my eyes. Now I have Luna (I waited so I would not make comparisons) but I will never forget Misty.

That’s what I did, too. I know people who get new pets immediately, but I figured I’d bring it home and say, “Okay, be Freckles.” And that wouldn’t be fair to me, the new baby, or to Freckles. There was only one Freckles.

@FourWalls Exactly. I first did my mourning and then got Luna.
