What Does Memorial Day mean to You?

I appreciate the people who lost their lives doing their American duty ... each one is equal to Christ in my mind---an unfortunate sacrifice, a life willfully given so that I (and other citizens, I imagine) don't have to give our own. But I am 'that appreciative' EVERY day. All the holiday means to me is 'the mail's not coming today' (and some of the businesses I use might be closed today). Do you have a more-personal connection to the holiday?
