The detour

When I walked out of the bank, I looked across the street to the park, where the senior center is and also a man-made lake. I was pleased to see a couple of swans, which I see there now and again, but never have my camera. So, I crossed the street and went over to the lake. Only one of the swans would get in the water, and while there I took a few photos of them. Unfortunately, when I went around to the other side of them, I saw that the one that had stayed on "land" had a lot of blood around its wing. I asked the people who'd been walking in front of me, one of whom I'd seen on the phone, if they had called animal control. The lady said her husband had. The lady was of the opinion that the swan had been attacked by something (ie: stray dog, racoon). I walked around the lake, taking photos of the birds that were usually there--American geese, Canadian geese, ducks--I had the pleasure of seeing a goose mom with a couple of goslings. When I got around the lake I came to the swans again, and I saw that a couple of boys with skateboards had come and looked at the swan that was still on land. I was afraid they were going to bother it, but instead they came up to me and one said, "Excuse me, but that bird's wing is really messed up." I told them that someone had already called animal control and I hoped they showed up soon. Poor thing--such a beautiful bird--I hope that the right people come and take care of it.
