Last year was my daughters first year as a teen (13) making her 14 this year. And boy does that make me both happy and sad. Happy, because that means we have just 4 years left until her 18th.. and when I can start looking for her if I decide to. Though as of now I'm still more on the side of letting her come to me even though I know that could mean it never happening or at least not right when she's 18. Especially if she doesn't know about me like she's supposed to. But it also makes me happy because that means she's still here.. She's still alive.. and from what I know, healthy and happy. And that's all I want for her. And then sad, because that makes another year I missed out on. And not just for birthdays either but holidays, school stuff, her hobbies and friends etc.. It really never gets easier. This year though, I celebrated her by buying another cake for her that said 'happy 14th birthday' and her name on it in purple (my color for her) and once again wearing the happy birthday shirt with her name and date of birth on it that I got airbrushed a few years ago. And instead of my mom wearing her same shirt, she wore a bright green shirt that we ironed on a picture of my daughter as a baby on a few months ago - after she got out of work. Then we just made facebook posts wishing her a happy birthday, looked at her photos and talked about our memories with her like usual. Wish there was more we could do to celebrate her, but as of now this is really all we can do. Unfortunately. Photo is mine. It's of the cake I got for her. Though the baker messed up her name by not added an A. *Face palms*

All you can do is hope that she is having a good life and wants to meet you when she turns 18.

You can be happy that your daughter has a good home and a good life and when she’s eighteen maybe she’ll want to meet you.

I know. But it's so stressful and emotional. As it can go either way and I just have to wait to see which one happens.

@RubyHawk as far as I know, she does.. yes. And I am. But it still hurts and all that she's not here where she belongs.

You are doing the best you can and in the next four years, you can better decide what you want to do.

@Courtlynn I am sure it can't be easy. Nothing in life is.
