The time I spent is unforgettable. It was a short time, though, only less than a year. With a little money given by my employer, I had to cut corners on my spending. It was in fact the grant from UK for my allowance during my stay in Central London.
I enjoyed going around the city but didn't visit many places due to my tight budget. I had a relative there working for BBC Radio. He took me around in order I could know hot to travel by tube. On the second day, I definitely knew my way around.
I was surprised that there were quite a lot of beggars on the road near the tube station. Where ever I went, I made sure I had small change to be given any beggars. "Arigato," said the beggar when I threw him small money. He thought I was a Japanese.

@yanzalong I remember that when I went to Rome, there seemed to be more Japanese than Italian there.

What you did though it's a small thing but it's big enough to make the beggar happy. Thus he's sincerely being thankful for you by saying "arigato".

Yes and he certainly does not say the same to everyone. I looked like a Japanese at the time. Lol.

@yanzalong Your appearance and countenance resemble a Japanese national.

May be there are many travelers from Japan and the beggar has received money from a lot of them.
