It's the Dog Days of Summer ... and did you know it has NOTHING to Do with their Smelly Lazing-about?

The official 'Dog Days of Summer are called that because of the rise (and fall? maybe ... from July 3 to August 11) of the star known as The Dog Star---Sirius, the brightest star of Canis Major. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirius They call it Big Dog because of the way it follows its master Orion. But are any of you thinking "Oh! Like the constellation, right?" when you hear someone saying "It's the dog days of summer"?

Even though I know the origin of the phrase, when I hear it, I still think of it as meaning that it's too hot for the dogs to be outside.
