The computer I just bought from Amazon

There was a refurbished computer on Amazon for $59. I tried to borrow from my daughter and my friend, but they both said no. So, I spent a good chunk of my post-rent money for this and another $19 for a 2-year service contract. So far, so good. I know refurbished anything gets a bad rap, but they're not all crap. I only bought used rebuilt appliances when I lived in Utah and it all worked out. I think the service contract will protect me for the time being. I've only had Windows OS computers and the two Apple devices I've been using for just over a year. I once had a Ubuntu OS desktop that I really liked, but I can't remember what happened to that. I know I still had it in 2008. Anyway, this makes a lot of things so much easier. I just have to get used to all the idiosyncrasies such as why this won't let me download the Facebook app for Chromebook. I did find a workaround, but still. Either way, I'm happy for now.

As long as it does what you need it to do. I personally have had short lives with computers that were open box or refurbished. Some so-called "new" ones too. I just put so much on this things.

That's my problem, too.

@kaylachan MacBooks are pretty good I hear, but way out of my price range. This was the most affordable rebuild I'd seen and I didn't want to miss out.

@jerzgirl Ironically, I bought myself a MacBook a few months ago and it seems to take what I dish out.
