Elmer's scented glue/these kids are A LOT

I'll never understand why Elmer's thought scented glue was a smart invention. Teachers and school workers everywhere are pulling their hair out. I saw a meme going around with a picture of the scented gluesticks and it said "Dear Elmer's what did we do to you? Signed teachers everywhere" I laughed because I remember last year. People were saying things like kids might use it as chapstick. That was never our experience. Our issue was parents would send them in despite the fact that we dumped all of our glue into one big thing and would randomly give them to kids when their glue ran out and the parents were made aware of this but they still sent in the scented ones and our kids would fight over them. Those things led to war or having kids shove them up their noses to smell them. It was a mess. I don't know how many I had to confiscate from kids when they were told to go get a new one and they had to get the scented ones. The teacher tried to remove them from the bin but there was a lot and a few would always escape. We told them they were not allowed to have them because of the fights they caused. We eventually used them for when we did fun things and even that could cause chaos because despite having them all at one table during the activity they'd fight over the different smells. The fun thing about kids that age is they will literally fight over nothing. Someone has a bigger gluestick or one is purple in color or clear. One kid swore someone got more of something than them or they'd want to use a certain pair of scissors despite them all looking the same. They'd all fight to be first in line. It was this never-ending list of things to fight about so when parents send stuff like that they have no idea the chaos they are actually causing. My group of kids was particularly bad and I was hoping to stay in kindergarten this coming year but they're moving me to first for lack of need in kindergarten but swore they'd bring me back of a spot opened up. I really didn't want to move up with these kids. I love them all but as a collective group, they are terrible. Probably one of the worst groups of kids I've ever dealt with at that age. Individually even the worst of kids could be sweet but throw them all together and it was chaos. I love working with my buddies I was assigned to and I said if I had to move up to first grade I wanted them back but that if something opened up in kindergarten I wanted to go back and they agreed. The teacher I worked with said she'd try and get me back but I'm not getting my hopes up. COVID really messed things up for that particular group of kids because most of them didn't do preschool and they were at home with parents who didn't work with them and in turn, you got complete chaos.

"The fun thing about kids that age is they will literally fight over nothing." - This is true ahahaha. I experienced teaching kids and indeed that they fight over nothing. Then later on they like each other again. Hahhaha

One of the kids I worked with started out besties with one girl and then they were like mortal enemies for a month and then best friends again by the end of the year. I hope they don't put them together next year because I can't handle the drama. I can't tell you how much of my job is just breaking up fights. I have had to pull kids off of each other a time or two. Legally the only way I am allowed to do something like that is if there is immediate danger and I'd say a kid punching another qualifies. These kids were monsters when in a large group. I had never heard a single good reason for their arguments either. It was always over something ridiculous. I just didn't get it.

@mnglsp They have trouble getting any help at all so they'll take whatever they can get lol. Those kids sent a lot of subs screaming. We have had some that have refused to come back.

I hope dealing with those kids is okay Sissy. Not something I would enjoy for sure.

I love my job most of the time and I can honestly say my day is never dull. Kids are fun and they give me a lot of laughs but it can be really stressful at times too. This group just drives me nuts and I was hoping they'd be able to move me to the kindergarten but I honestly doubt that's going to happen for me.
