Rude Neighbors

I am having problems with rude neighbors lately. There is a car wash next door to my house and the employees there are very rude. They park their cars bringing supplies directly under my apartment windows and sit with them idling blowing exhaust fumes right into my windows and both vehicles sound like they need new mufflers, they are SO loud. They smoke cigarettes and weed while sitting/standing right under my windows and it blows into my house. They are extremely loud early in the morning, outside washing cars yelling and hollering and laughing loudly as if they are down the block from each other when they are standing right next to each other. I am woken up as early as 7 am with the whooping, hollering, and laughing. They have this one guy that is the absolute loudest person I've ever heard. He laughs like he's just bellowing. He doesn't know how to talk quietly and everything he says is at the absolute top of his voice. Even his coworkers will tell him to be the heck quiet it's too early for that mess and he doesn't even stop. I am often yelling at him to be quiet and that nobody wants to hear that noise and there's no reason for him to be that loud so early in the morning. I honestly think that they find it funny when I get upset and start fussing for them to keep the noise down and especially about them moving their noisy, exhaust-spewing, muffler needing cars away from my apartment windows and to quit smoking and talking louder than crap under them. My boyfriend leaves before they get started too much most days but even he gets to a point of yelling for them to keep it down and he often wants to go out there and tell them about themselves and how rude they are being. I am fed up with it, I don't know what to do and I can't move. One of these days I am going to get up, throw something on besides my PJs and go out there and give them a piece of my mind. It is really getting ridiculous and I need to be able to sleep in the morning that early so they really do need to be quiet. The fact that they are talking and laughing and everything loud enough for it to be loud in my 2nd-floor apartment when they are on the ground level and next to each other and needn't talk that loud for the others to hear them makes no sense and drives me nuts.

Document, document, document. Make a physical list of their incidents and take video of before or after work hours noise or intrusions into your space. After you've compiled several weeks of complainable offences, seek out the manager or better yet, the owner of the property and present them with your complaints. Contact the city or county and make a formal complaint against the business. Contact the property manager for your complex and give them copies of documentation. It may sound like a lot of work but doing nothing or just yelling at the employees won't help you in the long run. In fact it could escalate the conflict. You could begin by calling the business and informing them of your concerns. You may find they are willing to act to change things. If not, then they had their fair warning. I wish you luck and hope that things will change.

They got in major trouble the other morning because they were out there at 6:15 am being louder than anything and they're not even supposed to have the car wash open that early, they aren't supposed to open before 7 am. They were told never to open before 7 am again and they were also told that as they are on a residential block and there is an apartment building directly next to them one way and a house directly next to them the other way that they have to keep their noise down outside normal business hours and keep it to what it needs to be for them to do their business during business hours and that they didn't want to receive anymore complaints about their car wash with noise or operating outside the legal hours for a business in the type of zoning they are in or they'd be shut down, maybe for good.

Sorry you are having to deal with that. People ARE rude. Although it was a different situation, our 2nd floor apartment was super noisy as the complex driveway was under us. People parked there to the side (even though it was technically a fire lane) and their noises would echo up to us. It was more than that though. Luckily we got there when new management took over . . . they were trying to weed out the rowdy folks . . . so they were happy to receive our complaints so they could try to get them out (took a while though). The thing is we lived in a college area - so this kind of stupid behavior was to be expected. I hope those people noisy people there shut up!!

I don't get that loud talking thing, either. I used to sometimes hear my neighbor talking at the loudest volume possible to someone standing right next to him. It sounds like these car wash fellas just don't give a fig about other people, and, unfortunately, you are the recipient of their ignorance. Is there someone in charge of the car wash that you can complain to? If not, do the police need to become involved? How rude of them!

There is an owner/manager at the car wash, he is at times out there being as loud as they are. One of my neighbors told them to keep it down the other day and then our apartment manager talked to their boss so they're making less noise albeit still loud often enough to drive us all nuts but less than before. The boss tells them to be quiet more often now at least.

Use the legal route. What does the noise ordinance for your community says?

Call the police when they are being loud in the morning and write down everything. Or take videos
