What is exactly Metaverse?

What exactly is the metaverse, and why is it being talked up as a transformative new technology?
Has anyone here know more about this topic or tried this virtual reality experience,because I don't seem to have a clue about this whole"Metaverse"meaning to it all in the first place.Am I ready for such thing yet,I don't seem to know after reading this article because I haven't exactly been expose or experience it in the first place.

I also don’t understand it nor have the desire too. With each year passing I find myself limiting my online exposure and just going back to living the life we used to as kids with no internet. Metaverse is just not my cup of tea.

@sica98 the homeless population is increasing all over the world but hey we can own houses in the Metaverse lol . What a lot of rubbish that is. Eh humanity…

@Greencindere People have hard time even paying for mortgages and like you said the homeless population increasing more and more everyday.The future is not progressing in a good way that's for sure.

I am not sure what is this, but my vague understanding is that it is something like a virtual reality where we can own things and etc. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
