I am originally from Japan and I couldn't speak English well when I came to US.I had a hard time understanding what people says, comedy show on TV or at the doctor's office etc.I have learned by listening to my favorite music, movie, kid program and talked to people even though I made a lot of mistakes. Do you speak more than one language? What worked for you to obtain the knowledge?

I speak English, and I'm learning Spanish and Japanese. I learnt English mostly by myself, by reading things in English and translating as much as I could. I believe the best way for someone to learn a language is to explorate the language on their own. And, of course, get used to the sound of the language, watching movies, TV shows and so on. :)

Just rich your vocabulary so you can understand well about new languange and i believe you will able to communicate with community although your structure not completely right. always try to practice your new languange with your partner and dont ever feel shy to practice it in community. My another language is english and not many indonesian people can speak english much. just practice and practice lots.

learning different languages is fun. bragging aside, i can speak 5 languages although not very fluent in other languages yet like french.. learning another language need passion. you need to be passionate about it and envision yourself finally speaking the language with the native speakers. ain't it great? it would inspire you.. i am an english teacher to koreans, and i must say at first, i felt sory for them not being able to learn it early on. however, you cannot also blame your country gfor being so nationalistic with your language. because i dont see anything wrong with that. just believe in yourself and take advantage of evry opportunity to speak english whenever you can. goodluck!

Mh, I speak more than one language, but I've not a lot of knowledge for all of them...I can use prettywell italian, which is my mother lang, and english, since I study it from more than 6 years...The other language that I know are french, spanish and japanese, but I'm leaving french 'cause it's lt of time that I don't speak it, and spanish and japanese...I'm learning them since this year, so... I want to obtain a lot of knowledge in japanese, so I listen a lot to japanese music, I watch japanese programs and movies...I try to help myself with activities which can increase my skills...but sometimes is really difficult..T.T
