It has been a busy and chaotic past couple of days. Yesterday I had my first day back to work without the kids being there and there was literally no real point in me being there. I ended up doing busy work for a lot of the fourth-grade teachers who really appreciated it but I would have rather been home if they didn't really need me there. We were supposed to do stuff but they had nothing for us to do and the teachers in our classroom didn't even know they were sending us down there and there wasn't much for us to do. I helped the three fourth grade teachers get their classrooms around. Two of them were my son's teachers from previous years and they told me to tell my son hi. I did quite a bit for their classrooms and that wasn't an issue but I could have done stuff at home. I was then told that they are doing assessments the next few days so there was no need for me to be there today and my kids will only be coming in for an hour Wednesday and Thursday so I'll show up for half days those two days so they'll have a familiar face. After everything yesterday we had to take my son to the middle school for open house and he was able to meet some of his teachers. He was excited to see his favorite teacher who moved up from his elementary school with him. She informed him that he'll have her class next semester so he's super excited especially since it's a science class. His whole face lit up when he saw her. I'm glad she's there for him. He got to talk to other teachers too which helped put him at ease. He was excited about choir and art and he didn't even sign up for art they just randomly assigned it. They also randomly assigned his class for next semester and part of me wonders if they intentionally put him in that class knowing how close he is to that particular teacher or if she had anything to do with it. They really bonded the past couple of years. We made sure he could open his locker and that he knew where his classes were and then we were exhausted by the time we got home that we all pretty much went straight to bed. Today was his first day back and we did our traditional McDonald's breakfast since it's his favorite place for breakfast and he looks forward to it every year because we don't typically get breakfast from there. After breakfast we got into what has to be the biggest drop off line I've ever seen and dropped him off at school. He was so nervous. It almost felt like dropping him off for his first day of kindergarten where he looked so lost and confused and didn't know what to do. I hope he makes new friends this year. He met the boy who has the locker next to his and they talked a little bit so hopefully, they can become friends. I just want my son to branch out and make new friends as well as keep his old ones. I just want his first day to go well. I'm so worried it's going to be too much and he's going to have a meltdown. I keep telling him he isn't the only one feeling the way he is and that it's going to be ok. I know it's a big deal but he's going to get through it. I told him we'll get ice cream after school and that brightened his day because ice cream fixes everything. I wanted him to have something to look forward to. I was nervous about my first day of jr. high school as a kid but I was never as freaked out as my son. My son tends to make things worse for himself by overanalyzing everything. Here's hoping his day goes well. I can't wait to see him in a few hours and see how his day went. I'm just praying it all went well.
