In Murshidabad in West Bengal there is cover farming done. While rice is planted on one area of the land there is ridged gourd plantations on the other piece of land. These crops are given shed by macha because they cannot tolerate high sunlight. The cover farming helps in retaining fertility of the soil. Ridged gourd is called jhinge in bengali and is cooked with poppy seeds called posto.
