Music Review - Falco - Rock Me Amadeus

There are sings I enjoy despite them being in a foreign language and therefore not knowing most of what the song is about. A classic example is Falco's 1985 Austrian disco classic, Rock Me Amadeus. The title and the video make it obvious the song is about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who also hailed from Austria. The song is undoubtedly inspired by the movie Amadeus, which came out the year before, based on a Peter Shaffer play from 1979. I saw the stage version as well as the movie. Falco sees Amadeus as the first great punk rocker, in his revolutionally stance on classical music traditions. Here he is venerated like a pop and rock star with a very punchy earworm chorus. I loved this song back in the day . . . and the music video too! I listened to it so much that it got ingrained in my head - but that's a good thing!
