Star – Scott Adkins My Rating *** Genre – Action Run Time – 1 hr Minutes. Certificate – 18 Country – U.K Awards – Wins & Nominations = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = So, you have probably not heard of Scott Adkins and nor should you, the nearly man of action stardom. He was killed early in The Bourne Ultimatum, chopped up by Wolverine and one of the Expendables, yep, the one you have never heard of. Born in the United Kingdom to a family of Birmingham butchers he ended up in acting through stunt work and his love of martial arts, the sort of Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris route. He is one of those guys who, once he headlines a big movie, you will think, hey, that’s the guy from the Expendables or that other film? The thing is he has all those action qualities and should have broken through to be a Jason Statham by now but not yet had his Transporter moment. I noticed him of late as Netflix had him up front in some enjoyable but silly action movies, notably One Shot, Accident Man and Avengement. I thought hey…that guy us popping up a lot on Netflix? He’s good. He should be doing bigger movies than this. He could be the new Statham. But he is 40 now and his peak may have passed = unless he is the new Bond. ===Cast=== • Scott Adkins as Jake Harris • Ashley Greene Khoury as Zoe Anderson • Ryan Phillippe as Jack Yorke • Emmanuel Imani as Brandon Whitaker • Dino Kelly as Danny Dietler • Jack Parr as Lewis Ash • Waleed Elgadi as Amin Mansur • Terence Maynard as Tom Shields • Jess Liaudin as Hakim Charef • Andrei Maniata as Adamat • Lee Charles as Dhelkor ===The Plot=== An elite Navy Seals team headed by Sergeant Jake Harris (Adkins) are assigned to chopper a high priority Islamic extremist (Waleed Elgadi ) from a CIA black site for interrogation in New York, where they think a terrorist attacks is coming and this guy the key to stopping it. As the station chief finally signs off on the move the base is attacked by a truck load of bearded ISIS types looking to seize the target and they are not taking any prisoners as the body count at the base rises on both sides and Harris team and on site CIA people are pinned down. ===Results=== Put simply without Adkins this would be pretty bad, a bog standard silly action movie where brown men run into bullets for no real reason and the same bullets bounce off the handsome square-jawed white men. It has the cigar chewing Schwarzenegger type comedy lead and performance from Adkins and echoes of Commando as countless men are killed in all sorts of ways. The plot is ridiculous as the plan of attack by the Arab militia and plenty more clichés from that part of the world to go with. I swear to you the bearded ones arrive like the terrorists do in Back to the Future in that JVC Penny car park! It’s a guy’s film through-and-through and above average in the genre when it really shouldn’t be, why I think Adkins has bigger lead roles in him. He has that Bruce Willis charisma and tongue-in-cheek sense of fun on set that he knows this is all nonsense but what the hell, it pays the bills.
