Bean plantations and snake gourd plantations are grown in bulk in Jalpaiguri. But the bean plants cannot tolerate heavy sunlight. So they are grown in macha. The leaves of the plants create a shade and beans bulge down from height. In bengali the beans are called barbati and the snake gourd are called chichinge.
