The government doesn't care about our soldiers

I'm reading a book that's a series of essays written by anti-war veterans, "Paths of Dissent - Soldiers Speak Out Against America's Misguided Wars", edited by Adnrew Bacevich and Daniel A.Sjursen.
The essays are the perspective of American soldiers who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11/2001. Timely given that today is the 21st anniversary of 9/11.
Conclusion - that there were a lot of wasted lives, incompetence, bad decisions, etc., and that the government really does not care about our soldiers. Our leaders had no clue what they were doing, and we have pretty much squandered what goodwill we had around the world.
If you want to hear what went on over there written by people who were actually there, this is very interesting reading.
On a side note, I read an interesting article in the local paper (Sacramento Bee) regarding psychedelic mushrooms and how they can actually help our veterans treat their PTSD. So why isn't it legal?
