Hunted in Darkness is book number 2 in Carrie Ann Ryan's newest series, The Aspen Pack. It's one of her favorite genres, paranormal and she's great at writing it. This book focuses on the Aspen Pack Alpha, Chase and Redwood Pack Princess, Skye. He's trying to keep a broken pack together when he, himself is broken. She is just trying to find her place in a pack. She's Redwood but doesn't feel like she truly belongs there. Chase is the son of a crazy and evil pack alpha. He had gone crazy trying to rise in power over all packs, locking up Chase and torturing others just for the pleasure of it. That's what he feels some people see still when they look at him. How is he supposed to lead a pack that doesn't trust him? Chase does though and does it well. He won't let himself have a relationship as he thinks his pack needs him too much and there's just too much to do. Trying to bring a broken pack back together is hard work. Skye loves her life, she just doesn't feel like she belongs anywhere. So she's wherever she's needed and she does those jobs well. There's really nothing she can't do yet and she's a Redwood Princess, daughter of the Redwood pack's Alpha. You would think that she would have a definite place but she doesn't. When Chase seeks comfort in her, she can't help but say yes. It's not forever, just right now. She can't fall for the Aspen Alpha, that's not for her. As the threat rises from the Vampires, the Aspen pack or more specifically Chase seem to be their target. How does one figure out what is going on when they're being attacked so often and with a magic that they have never seen before. Chase seems to know for a fact that Skye isn't his however, is it really true or is there more magic at work? Love can not be planned but sometimes it can be hidden. This book was awesome. You really see how strong of a leader Chase really is. You also learn what his father did to him while he had Chase locked up. Skye is also a strong female character that will fight for what she believes in and for those she loves. The story line and characters are built in a wonderful world that you can't help but root for the Aspen pack. She brings all her packs together while focusing on one and that's talent. She has prior series about the Redwoods if you're interested but you don't have to read those to read these. You don't even have to read Mated in Darkness, the first book in the Aspen series, to read this one. I would recommend it, it's paranormal romance. *picture from google
