Thanks to a female driver who called 911 to report an accident where a bald eagle who was flying on a highway in Suffolk County New York on Thursday morning was hit by a truck which caused the bald eagle to land on the side of the road, A Suffolk County Police Officer named Cody Matthews and a New York State Department of Environmental Officer Nick Perkins came to assist the bald eagle.
Both officers were able to get the injured eagle to a rehabilitation center in an attempt to save the bald eagle who suffered two broken wings which the veterinarian made the decision to put the three year old bald eagle to sleep.
Normally I try to share good news stories of law enforcement officials who rescue animals and humans from dying in accidents.
The silver lining in the dark cloud is that the female driver who witnessed the accident did call 911 to report the incident to the authorities.

The veterinarian had to put the eagle to sleep since the bird could not fly anymore.

@Deepizzaguy that’s strange they put him down then he could have still survived in a cage. Maybe they just felt he wouldn’t have much quality of life that way.

I was hoping that the bald eagle would recover at the rehabilitation center but it was determined that the bald eagle would not be able to fly at all.

@shaggin That is true since the veterinarian was saying that the eagle was basically a cripple.

@Deepizzaguy but if you look at the photo does it not look as if the truck rode over him?

@RasmaSandra I think that the truck hit the eagle head on but the eagle may have fallen away from being run over by the truck wheels.

I am that the truck did try to avoid hitting the eagle who flew too low to the road when he was hit on the highway.

I am sad as well that the bald eagle had to be put to sleep as well. The female driver who did her part to contact the police after saw the accident did what was right.

i thought that the eagle would survive at first, then came the bad news that the eagle broken wings were too damaged to save him.
