Sympathy

On October 11th I had to send Sparky to the Bridge. Now, after losing 6 cats in 2017, I have lost 3 cats a year until this year. I had hoped after losing my wife in February I wouldn't lose any cats, but... Sparky was a bit special, he had my wife's name in his fur, so... yeah. Back in mid-September the vet gave him a steroid shot that should've lasted a month. It didn't. It lasted about 2 weeks and while he was still eating some, it wasn't like he had been eating a lot. The vet felt him and thought he might have cancer. I have lost a sad number of babies to cancer now. In fact, all 3 of the cats I got from a certain area I have lost to cancer. I've had a lot of people say that Sparky will be waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I, however, really hope that when he crossed it, my wife was there, finally healthy and happy and took him in her arms. Now, I had expressed to the vet about how I had hoped to go a year without losing a cat. And, in a sense, I had since the last cat I lost in 2021 was in July. But the sympathy card I got from her was just so special that I want to share it with people. I hadn't opened it when I got it, I felt I needed to be in a better spot then I was at. The card read as such: I'm so sorry for your loss of Sparky. It is never easy to say good-bye to a loved pet, but can be especially hard when we share a connection between our pets and other lost loved ones. I know Sparky will always hold a special place in your heart and will be missed in the days ahead. Holding you in my thoughts during this difficult time. Gads, just typing that made me tear up and my head hurt.

You have my sympathy at the loss of your beloved wife and all the pets. It' is hard to lose loved ones .My son passed away two years ago and my mate a year ago. I think we gradually get used to it as time goes by and they will always dwell in our hearts.

I do know I'll get used to it, but as it stands right now... well... I just don't see it.

@ElicBxn I know how you feel, but we have no choice other than to carry on the best way we can. I know it's what my son and mate would want, So I try my best every day. It doesn't mean that my heart isn't aching.

@RubyHawk Back in February I told my wife, Viv, that I was going to be fine, and she flat lined. I really thought I would be. I was wrong.

Sorry you have lost so many in your life. I can understand. It helps to have a compassionate vet to help you along the way.

It does. I hope she stays at the clinic for a good long while.

I'm sorry about Sparky. I lost 6 cats and 3 dogs in the fire that took my home in 2017. When I saw the flames I went berserk and tried to go into the burning hours and rescue my critters. It took 5 burly firemen to hold me back. They explained that the critters didn't suffer (that really didn't help much!) and I would be in extreme danger if I went into the burning house. I still mourn them even now, even though I have Petey and Jonesy. My heart is with you.

Thanks Toni. I know it had to hurt when you lost both your home and your family. I really do consider pets family.
