To respond and not react?

Whenever we are furious at someone or something, we lash out. Can we control our emotions? Most of us cannot. Spirituality teaches us to respond and not react. If we control our emotions and don't mouth the first thing we feel, life would be less complex. We all have instincts, however, not all instincts are to be worked upon. We have to be parsimonious with the number of words we speak. When you feel angry, what do you do? Do you react? Do you throw or break things to avoid verbal battle?

If you can master controlling your emotions and act only when it is necessary then you can stay out of trouble in many situations in life. I think that is the best way to avoid acting without thinking out the consequences of your actions.

@Dreamerby Indeed I am also as well guilty of not being able to control my temper. But then I always keep in mind that I should stop and think over it before I say anything.

Hmm. But it's hard to implement that. Someetimes I have tried and felt better too, however, after some days I have lashed out as well.

I'll calm down, think about what made me angry and deal with it.

With age, I guess I will learn to do that too.
