Star – Josh Brolin My Rating *** Genre – Sci-Fi Run Time – 8 x 50 Minutes. Certificate – 15 Country – U.S.A = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = So autumn is here in the northern hemisphere and distractions are needed from potential nuclear war, high inflation, no heating and three weeks until The World Cup. Amazon Prime is my first pay TV of the cold night’s season with a few show’s to catch up on and new ones to try. Watched second season of The Boys and enjoyed it but tired of The Expanse in season three whilst bailed on Jack Ryan in season one. But the big new Sci-Fi show on Amazon is Outer Range, starring Josh Brolin, and so I gave that a try, ===Cast=== Josh Brolin…Royal Abbott Imogen Poots…Autumn Rivers Lili Taylor …Cecilia Abbott Tom Pelphrey…Perry Abbott Tamara Podemski…Deputy Sheriff Joy Lewis Pullman…Rhett Abbott Noah Reid…Billy Tillerson Shaun Sipos…Luke Tillerson Olive Abercrombie…Amy Abbott Will Patton…Wayne Tillerson Isabel Arraiza Maria Olivares…Morningstar Angeline ===The Plot=== Wyoming ranching families The Abbott’s and the Tillerson’s work the land for cattle and crop but don’t get on that much and have history. Rugged square-jawed Royal (Brolin) heads the Abbott's whilst the flash big hat wearing Wayne Tillerson heads the other, currently suffering a terminal illness. There is something menacing in the air on the beautiful Wyoming plains and it smells ominous to Royal. Whilst out riding, he discovers that menace, a mysterious hole in the ground on the Abbott's western pastures. It’s about 20ft wide and of unknown depth, strange mists and weirdness swirling around in it, surely not off this world and understanding. Royal heads home with the hole on his mind. Also new in town is Autumn Rivers (Imogen Poots), a feisty young backpacker hoping to stay on the Abbotts land, which Royal begrudgingly agrees to. Royal’s son Rhett (Lewis Pullman) is a hot headed local rodeo star, older brother Perry (Tom Pelphrey) looking out for him and the more mature of the two, the family lassoed together by mom Abbott (Lili Taylor). The Tillerman boys of Billy (Noah Reid) and Luke (Shaun Sipos) are less productive but have big plans for the ranch when pop dies. It’s not long until tensions rise once again between the boys and a bar fight breaks out, Deputy Sheriff Joy (Tamara Podemski) on the case, a case that begins to get mysteries for her, her ancestry of Native Indian from these parts of old. Why is the hole here now and what is its purpose? ===Results=== So it starts off OK as the mystery of the hole takes shape and the key people in the show begin to find out about it as various people topple or jump in it. It falls a bit flat in the middle episodes as the warring ranchers and the various characters are fleshed out and then the big twist near the end of season one sort of fills out some of the reasons for the hole and what it does. But apart from that it’s a lot of big hat and no cattle, stubbled chinned, cowboy boot posturing. The love interest is there as you would expect and the show carried by Brolin’s macho lead. Intrigue wise it begins to tail off and has that feeling the writers start losing their way in an effort to set up the second season it may or may not get. 8 episodes is probably two too many for season one and the whole thing feels flabby at times. The Science-Fiction side is limited so far and this series not really aimed at that crowd. Maybe worth a try guys but nothing special. ===RATINGS=== Imdb.com 7/1/10.0 (26kvotes) Rottentomatos.com –81% critic’s approval ===Trailer=== https://www.imdb.com/video/vi2746860057/?playlistId=tt11685912&ref_=tt_ov_vi

@thedevilinme Oh dear, that's sad. A friend of mine who's my age is at the early stage of dementia. It's frightening for all people involved.

Thanks for the review. I usually have my great grandson so a lot of my tv watching ends up being his shows.
